Why was the Amhara population targeted

This study examines patterns of alleged systematic violence, mass killing, arbitrary arrest, displacement, and destruction affecting Amhara communities in Ethiopia between 1983 and 2026, and explores whether these patterns can be meaningfully compared with the historical persecution experienced by Kurdish populations in the Middle East. The study is motivated by reports and allegations of repeated attacks against Amhara civilians, including killings, mass arrests, forced displacement, destruction of property, and other forms of human-rights violations. Rather than treating these allegations as established facts, the research proposes to systematically document, verify, and analyze available evidence concerning the scale, geographic distribution, perpetrators, victims, motives, and institutional responses associated with reported incidents.The study adopts a comparative historical and human-rights framework, examining ethnic politics, identity-based mobilization, territorial disputes, political exclusion, armed conflict, hate speech, displacement, and state and non-state responses. Particular attention is given to whether patterns of violence.
