Who? and Why?

Growing up on the rough streets of Brooklyn, Jack is no stranger to trouble. From violent street gang brawls armed with buckles, knives, and bats, he is a fighter who knows how to survive. But after orchestrating an unlikely peace pact with a rival gang leader named Marcus over a high-stakes game of stickball, Jack realizes he wants a different kind of life. Yet, the streets have a way of clinging to you. After a dramatic turn of events that includes saving Marcus from an internal gang betrayal and getting caught in a scandalous high school encounter with a "knockout girl", Jack faces an ultimatum from his school dean: quit school and join the Army.

Choosing his own terms, Jack joins the military during the Korean War. His raw toughness serves him well in basic training, but his sharp instincts catch the eye of high-ranking officials. Decades later, the battlefield shifts from international espionage to a heartbreaking, deeply personal crisis back home. Jack faces a systemic failure when his beloved wife, Gayle, is admitted to a hospital with Huntington's disease. Blocked by arrogant administrators and unqualified doctors who refuse to let her long-term physician treat her, Jack watches helplessly as his wife tragically passes away.

When the hospital executives and doctors responsible for Gayle's neglect suddenly begin turning up dead-one shot in a drive-by, another stabbed in the chest, and a third with a bullet to the head-the police zero in on Jack. Armed with a rock-solid bar alibi for the first murder but no defense for the others, Jack finds himself at the center of a tense investigation.
