THE VILLAIN

It is set in Igbo land, the habitat of the unique tribe in southeastern Nigeria. Eziala is a community, comfortably wearing the features of any Igbo society pre and post independent Nigeria. There is cohesion, compassion and social harmony. There are no structural demarcations among households, families and compounds in the kindred, village and community. Everybody belongs to nobody. Therefore nothing is hidden from the views of all. Hypocrisy and treachery exhibited by Efefe is central. The unsuspecting lives of the people are expressed by their free and harmonious exhibitions towards all kinsmen. However, you can only fool some people all the time and not all the people all the time. Succession to the throne of Eziala remains hereditarily sacrosanct as the place of the first born son is revered and given in the community. Oftentimes, intrigues and conspiracies play out. Treachery rears its ugly heads here and there while the imminent intervention by the gods give succor to the defenseless. The characters include Efefe, Eze Igboka, Ekezie, Aku and Akaraka, among others.
