The Stars that Rise at Dawn

In a world where your life argues for you, carving out the possibilities for the world to come, three friends find out just how little they know each other...

As a philosophy student, Elīya knows that the most important thing for living right is a tireless dedication to ethics, and that keeping a promise is one of the most important ethical rules. After all, the entire world of Šehhinah rests on such a promise. So she had always thought she'd share everything with her best friend Tamar, including a normal life in college, as they once promised each other they would.

But two years ago, just after high school graduation, Tamar motorcycled off into the desert to find the secret form of God in exchange for a staggering price. And then left for another city without even giving Elīya an explanation.

Yenatru thought he had two friends-until, with Tamar gone, it turned out he wasn't as close to Elīya as he thought. He can't even tell her that he's been delving into some serious magic of his own. No one knows that he's practicing Theurgy-the art of creating things with the power of his soul. Except the woman he meets in the college library, who calls herself Lucifer.

But Yenatru's new friend can't stay a secret forever. Elīya's friendships and academic dreams may be in shambles, but she has something she wants so badly that she would do anything for it-anything at all. And it's Lucifer herself who might just be able to offer her a deal.

The Stars that Rise at Dawn is the first book in Ivana Skye's Šehhinah trilogy, an atmospheric, semi-utopian reimagining of Abrahamic mythology where everyone's personal life is of cosmic importance.
