For a year, a council built from strangers who once believed their own troubles were their own alone has learned to speak honestly - a chieftain who cannot forgive himself, a claimant who chose restraint over ambition, a king who traded certainty for a table built on hard truths. Together they have watched. Together they have waited. Together they have believed, however uneasily, that patience answered with patience might be enough.

It was never going to be enough.

The Breaking is the fifth chronicle - a story of honest councils and dishonest silences, of chieftains who ride toward the very grievances that could destroy them, of a mountain kingdom that must finally learn what its own oldest wards were built to hold back. Some doors, once opened, do not close again. And some nights cost a realm more than any council was ever built to survive.
