The wealthy and successful merchant Reb Mendel had always considered himself to be a good man, pious, observant, and upright. Until one day, in his shtetl in 18th century Poland, a magical door suddenly appears that leads to a fruit orchard where the weather is always perfect and the fruit juicy and ripe. The keeper of this orchard declares that Mendel is the lord and proprietor of the enchanted realm, even though Mendel has no idea why and insists he has never been there before.
When the orchard's delicious fruit starts to change the inhabitants of the town for the worse and spread corruption, Rabbi Israel ben Eliezer, the famous Baal Shem Tov, is summoned to use his knowledge of the kabbalah and mystical powers to unravel the mystery. The Baal Shem Tov will work with Mendel to discover the origins of the orchard, the secret of its power, and Mendel's strange role in both. But when the Baal Shem Tov is ready to confront the forces that created the orchard, not everything will go according to plan.
The Enchanted Orchard is a meditation upon sin and fate, and the power-and the limits-of repentance.
