THE CODEX SINAITICUS & VATICANUS COMPARATIVE EDITION

The definitive reference for comparing the twin pillars of New Testament textual criticism.

For centuries, Codex Sinaiticus and Codex Vaticanus have stood as the ultimate authorities on the ancient Greek text of the New Testament. Yet for researchers, pastors, and students, navigating their variations, omissions, and historical context has required flipping through dense academic volumes or disjointed digital archives.

The Codex Sinaiticus & Vaticanus Comparative Edition bridges this gap. This volume offers a structured layout pairing English translation with precise side-by-side commentary and visual textual analysis. Author J. Arden Voss provides an indispensable workspace for examining missing verses, scribal practices, and the translation history shaping modern Bibles.

This comprehensive volume features:

• Parallel Analysis & Layout: Navigate the unique columns, symbols, and structural layout of both ancient codices alongside an English translation.
• Exegesis of Major Variants: In-depth commentary on highly debated passages, including the longer ending of Mark (16:9-20), the Pericope Adulterae (John 7:53-8:11), and the Johannine Comma (1 John 5:7-8).
• Transmission History: An exploration of scribal culture, explaining copyist alterations, the shift from scrolls to codices, and the rise of modern critical texts.
• Apologetics & Textual Integrity: A study of how variations impact Christian doctrine, showing why historical transparency strengthens confidence in the preservation of Scripture.
• Essential Academic Tools: Includes a Timeline of Manuscript Discovery, a Major Textual Families chart, a Glossary of Textual Terms, and a comparative table of key variants.

Designed for the seminary classroom, pastoral study, and lay historian, this edition removes the ambiguity of biblical footnotes. It places the raw data of textual history directly into your hands, allowing these ancient pages to serve as an enduring witness to the preservation of the Word.
