The Varnhagen papers from Cracow, which are now accessible, open up new research sources.§The third and final section is devoted to the "Mistress" of Wiepersdorf, Bettina von Arnim, and centres on the extent to which Bettina's political activities in her later years can be seen as a form of salon activity.
