Metastatic Me

Who would love to have an individual or group volunteer to bring meals to them for life? It happened to Shirley Wright! That is, a church group volunteered to bring her meals while she was in treatment. For metastatic cancer patients, that is for life! The experience at one and the same time brought secret smiles and deep sighs.

Persons living in the sphere of these patients have learned how to help during the weeks of treatment after the initial diagnosis--providing meals, housekeeping assistance, rides to appointments. They, however, often have difficulty grasping the "forever" nature of metastatic disease. Due to modern medicine, many patients receiving a metastatic diagnosis are living longer and better, but that does not diminish the emotional toll accompanying the process. Who better to understand and frame into words the daily ups and downs, the joys and the sorrows of walking the metastatic road than someone on the road herself!

Metastatic Me: Salt in a Wound seeks to frame into words some of the experience of living with metastatic disease as a way of being in solidarity with other patients but also as a way of increasing understanding for family, friends, and even healthcare providers.
