In many respects, the constitution of the land relied on these interactions. In this book, historians from five countries present aspects of the current research regarding the concept centre and periphery in the Middle Ages. The focal points of the papers are persons and communication, the ecclesiastical administration, Livonian relations to the Holy Roman Empire, regional and supra-regional activities of the Teutonic Order, and cultural exchange.
