Este trabajo puede leerse de múltiples maneras: como un libro que da a conocer una necrópolis del norte de Castellón; como un instrumento donde recuperar paralelos mayoritariamente metálicos; como revisión teórica; o como una combinación de las anteriores. Esta posibilidad la ofrece la manera como se ha planteado el trabajo, combinando una primera parte que da a conocer la primera campaña de excavación en una nueva necrópolis paleoibérica del área del norte de la provincia de Castellón localizada intacta en 2020. Una segunda parte en la que, gracias al estudio minucioso de la cultura material, se han podido fechar las sepulturas excavadas a caballo entre los siglos vi y v a. C. Una tercera en la que la rica cultura material permite observaciones acerca de distintos aspectos de los rituales funerarios que se realizaron y su relación con el territorio. Y, por último, se aprovecha la complejidad del registro de El Poaig para reflexionar de forma crítica y novedosa sobre los fundamentos teóricos y metodológicos con los que se estudia hoy el registro funerario paleoibérico, desde la manera de estudiar la cultura material hasta la interpretación del ritual funerario.
