Kehlani

Kehlani has spent almost her entire life behind glass.

Born on a marine fish farm and raised in a home reef aquarium, the curious Picasso triggerfish grows up in a world of coral, currents, strange neighbors, and the young girl who chose her. Over the years, Kehlani learns about friendship, courage, loss, responsibility, and what it means to become someone others can depend on.

But when the family makes the difficult decision to return her to the ocean, Kehlani is suddenly separated from everything she has ever known.

For the first time, there are no glass walls, no scheduled feedings, and no humans watching over her. The open reef is breathtaking, dangerous, and filled with fish who do not trust someone raised by humans. To survive, Kehlani must use everything she learned in the Glass Kingdom while discovering who she is when no one else is there to decide for her.

Along the way, she finds friendship, first love, grief, courage, and a new community, while wrestling with the question that has followed her through every world she has ever known:
