HELMET OF SAND

He was sent to hold the line against Iraq. Nobody told him the line ran through Washington.

Mid-late 1990. As coalition forces mass across the Saudi desert, Colonel Mitchell leads a brigade of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) into an isolated staging sector no map adequately explains, no logistics chain properly serves, and no superior will clearly account for.

What begins as a staging deployment quickly becomes something else entirely. Equipment fails in patterns too deliberate to be accidental. Satellite imagery covering their position has been altered before reaching the Pentagon. A network of tunnels runs beneath the camp built long before the Americans arrived. And somewhere between Riyadh and Washington, someone with the right access and the wrong loyalty is engineering the brigade's failure from the inside.

Mitchell must fight on two fronts simultaneously: the visible war of sand, heat, and coalition politics and the buried war of manipulation, sabotage, and institutional betrayal that no military doctrine prepared him for.
