Every church sits somewhere. The families down the street, the kids at the nearby school, the widow who hasn't left her house in weeks are all part of the place God planted your congregation. GIS shows pastors, outreach leaders, and everyday church members how to use maps to see that place more clearly and serve it better.
In plain language, the book walks through mapping your congregation, getting to know your neighborhood, planning outreach where the need really is, organizing food, housing, and visitation ministries, getting ready for disasters, and joining in long-term community development. Stories from churches of every size show what it looks like in practice. The book also covers protecting people's privacy and dignity, and it ends with a simple ninety-day plan to get started.
You don't need a geography degree. Most of what a church needs can be learned over a few weekends with free software and public data. All it takes is a willingness to look up from the pews and notice who's been there all along.
