The book consists of eight chapters. Chapter I includes introduction to the family of galectin proteins and the specific role of galectin-3 in various diseases and associated metabolic disorders. It also includes the objective of present investigation. Literature on Galectin-3, regulation of immune response, cloning systems, Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) mediated inflammatory responses and past work on galectin-3 in inflammation and obesity was reviewed in chapter II. Chapter III describes the experimental procedures in present investigations.
