In the heart of a frozen city, a single spark can ignite a revolution-or a forbidden flame.

Helsinki, 1943. The city is a ghost of itself, caught in the suffocating grip of a dual occupation. For Eino Virtanen, his family's bookshop, Virtanen's Literary Haven, is more than a business. It is a sanctuary for the soul of Finland. Beneath the floorboards, he hides the forbidden - poetry of resistance and pamphlets of hope - living a double life as the subversive poet known only as E. Talvinen.

Major Valentina Sorokina of the Soviet Cultural Compliance Division is a woman forged in the fires of the Motherland. Her mission is simple: silence the voices of dissent. But when she raids Eino's shop, she finds something she never expected, a man whose quiet defiance is as sharp as a blade, and verses that resonate with a part of her she thought long dead.

A dangerous game of cat and mouse begins.

As the brutal Finnish winter deepens, Eino and Valentina find themselves drawn into an impossible orbit. He is the dissident she is sworn to destroy. She is the oppressor he is meant to hate. Yet, in the shared silence of interrogation rooms and the amber glow of hidden alcoves, the lines between enemy and ally begin to blur.

When a betrayal from within the resistance threatens to expose Eino's true identity, Valentina must choose between her duty to the State and the man who has taught her that some things are worth more than survival. In a world of shifting allegiances and cold-blooded secrets, can two souls from opposite sides of a war find warmth in the embers of a dying world?
