From da Heart Vol. 2

To whomever this may concern.....greetings. First of all, allow me to say thank you for simply taking the time to open this book. You could've been anywhere in the world, yet you're here with me....and I appreciate you for that. I hope life has been kind to you lately. Who am I? That's a great question and one that I've been dodging for yrs now. It often seems irrelevant most times in relation to the life I'm living currently. However, here's my attempt to update this bio.

My name is Marquise D. Person. Chicago born but raised in Jackson, Tn. I moved to Nashville in 2011 to attend MTSU for journalism. I wanted to work in TV production before eventually dropping out to pursue my art and "an idea". Respectfully known now as "M-Dot da Poet"(credit to Imani Rhema of Soul Food Poetry Cafe), I'm an award winning spoken word artist; I have 4 self published books; I created, hosted and produced my own live show series "A Night with da Poet & Friends" for 2 yrs; served as liaison for Carpe Cafe in Smyrna, Tn; Co-created & co-produced 4 live show installments of "Poetry in Motion Live"; a former member of Po'boys & Poets-Nashville, and even had a brief stint as a columnist for Legend Magazine. That's who I was, at least... and that's what I did for a chapter in my life.

As Marquise, I'm a dedicated father to my 12 year old daughter...and a friend to her mother; a big brother to my 3 sisters, and still both of my grandmother's favorite. I work in a kitchen nowadays. No longer on stages but somehow always still in the spotlight. I've grown comfortable with that by now, however. My pen is very much still active and the creativity is flowing, which brings us to my latest "work of art". That being said....enjoy the book!
