From Bound to Bold

Something happened to you. Or perhaps many things happened, accumulated over years into a weight that has become so familiar you have almost stopped noticing it is there. You carry it when you wake up. You carry it through your day. You carry it into rooms where people are laughing and where you smile and perform okay-ness with enough fluency that most of them believe you. And then you carry it home.

The weight has a name. It is disappointment. Not the mild inconvenience of a cancelled plan or a delayed delivery. The deep kind. The kind that reaches into the architecture of who you are and shakes the foundations. The kind that comes from the gap between the life you believed you were supposed to be living and the life you are actually in. The kind that accumulates when hope has been disappointed often enough that hoping itself begins to feel like a liability.

This book is written for people who are carrying that weight. It is not written from a theoretical distance. I know this territory from the inside, and I have learned, over time and not without cost, that the weight was never designed to be permanent. There is a way through it. Not around it. Through it. And on the other side of it is something the Bible describes as bold: the settled, grounded, grace-rooted freedom of a person who has been through the dark and found that God was present in it.
