Forgotten Lives is the first English-language monograph to explore fully their lives and work, and the role they played in the Russian Revolution. It follows the sisters' work for the Party and the state after the Bolshevik seziure of power in October 1917 and explores the sisters' relationship with Lenin and how they coped with Stalin's rise to power. The portrayal of the sisters in Soviet and English-language histories is also discussed, with a view to correcting some of the misconceptions about them and restoring these largely forgotten lives to the history of the revolution.
