Durango doesn't tremble. Until it does.

At 8:20 on an ordinary October morning, the earth beneath a hundred-year-old building on Calle Constitución shakes for exactly three seconds - and seven strangers, crammed into an old elevator, become trapped between floors.

An insurance salesman. An unfaithful wife. A surgeon carrying a secret in a manila envelope. A nurse who took hush money. An accountant fleeing with three million pesos. A husband looking for his missing wife. And a young man who, thirty minutes earlier, had been standing on a rooftop deciding whether to jump.

When the elevator's dead intercom crackles to life with a voice that shouldn't exist - a voice that already knows exactly who they are and exactly what they've done - the seven realize the tremor didn't trap them.
