In the quiet Ontario town of Hadleigh, a wealthy businessman is dead, his teenage stepdaughter is missing, and everyone in his complicated family has something to hide.

When successful car dealer Dean Mann is found unconscious in the bedroom of his luxurious waterfront home, the first explanation seems almost ordinary: a sudden heart attack after a night of drinking and stress. Jenny's daughter vanished during the stormy night before Dean was found and remained hidden throughout the frantic search for her. When Sonja finally resurfaces, she is an uncooperative witness, still haunted by the earlier death of her own father-who also supposedly died from a sudden heart attack.

As Nell and Vince reconstruct Dean's final hours, Martin brings his own meticulous-and sometimes awkward-approach to the case. Toxicology, digital forensics and fragments of deleted communications begin to reveal the depth of Dean's despair. A recovered email appears to point toward suicide, yet physical evidence and contradictory witness accounts leave open the possibility that someone helped him die.

The more the investigators uncover, the less certain the truth becomes.

Was Dean destroyed by the fraud threatening his dealership?

Did his wife allow him to die rather than expose her secrets?
