BYPASS

Zusammenkunft als künstlerische Praxis 

In Form von Skulpturen und partizipativen Projekten widmet sich Jenny Brockmann (geb. 1976 in Berlin, lebt und arbeitet in Berlin und New York) der künstlerischen Forschung, indem sie dynamische räumliche und soziale Prozesse untersucht. In laborähnlichen Settings entstehen Kunstobjekte und Arbeitssituationen unter Einbeziehung des Publikums. Brockmann reagiert mit einer experimentellen Herangehensweise auf aktuelle gesellschaftliche und politische Themen und provoziert Fragen nach menschlichen Verhaltensmustern und sozialen Strukturen. 

Die Installations-und Performance-Reihe BYPASS entwickelte sie über verschiedene Orte hinweg. An der Schnittstelle von Kunst, Wissenschaft und Forschung angesiedelt, beleuchtet das Projekt den Begriff der Konnektivität aus vielfältigen Perspektiven und dient als Katalysator zur Erforschung transdisziplinärer Diskurse und kollaborativer Methoden. 

Der Katalog erscheint anlässlich des Projektes BYPASS, das im Goethe-Institut, London, in der Hearth Gallery, Cardiff, und auf der documenta fifteen, Kassel stattgefunden hat. Mit einem Vorwort von Katharina von Ruckteschell-Katte, Texten von Jenny Brockmann, Linda Rocco, Victoria Walsh, einem Essay zu Félix Guattaris Konzept der Transversalität von Henning Schmidgen, einem Gespräch zwischen Henning Schmidgen und der Künstlerin und einem von Danni Shen geführten Interview. 

Togetherness as a Creative Practice 

Jenny Brockmann's (b. Berlin, 1976; lives and works in Berlin and New York) sculptures and participatory projects enact artistic research that scrutinizes dynamic spatial and social processes. In laboratory-like settings, she generates art objects and productive situations that invite the audience's active involvement. Responding to current societal and political concerns with an experimental approach, Brockmann prompts questions concerning patterns of human behavior and social structures. 

The series of installations and performances BYPASS was developed across a series of sites. Located at the intersection between art, scholarship, and research, the project illuminates the idea of connectivity from a multiplicity of perspectives and serves as a catalyst for the investigation of transdisciplinary discourses and collaborative methods. 

The catalogue is released on occasion of the project BYPASS, which took place at the Goethe Institute, London, the Hearth Gallery, Cardiff, and documenta fifteen, Kassel. With a preface by Katharina von Ruckteschell-Katte, writings by Jenny Brockmann, Linda Rocco, Victoria Walsh, an essay on Félix Guattari's concept of transversality by Henning Schmidgen, a conversation between Henning Schmidgen and the artist, and an interview by Danni Shen.
