From mediums employed by the police to help with psychic crime-busting to sea monster sightings reported to the Royal Navy, this book brings to light a range of secret documents created by military intelligence and government agencies who have investigated and even used extraordinary phenomena or powers in recent history. This book explores: Operation Mistletoe and whether a witchcraft coven played a role in casting a protective spell to protect Britain from Nazi invasion during the summer of 1940; The role played by the intelligence agencies - and Ian Fleming and Alistair Crowley - in plans to manipulate Nazi interest in the occult and astrology during World War II disinformation campaigns; Radar 'angels' that plagued Britain's air defences during World War II and the Special Branch hunt for a 'phantom helicopter' during an IRA bombing campaign in 1973-74; and Scottish National Archives files on attempts to give Nessie protection from game hunters. Underpinned by original records held at The National Archives, these accounts are supplemented with contextual material gathered from interviews and the author's own investigations, which will make for truly eye-opening reading for anyone interested in the paranormal.
