Biographie de Ramakrishna

Dans sa jeunesse, tout naturellement, Ramakrishna (1836-1886) adhéra à la religion que sa famille pratiquait. Dès qu'il obtint le cordon sacré des brahmines, il accomplit en son foyer les cultes de Rama avec une grande sincérité. Plus tard, lorsqu'il devint prêtre de Kali, il chercha à recevoir l'initiation appropriée afin de l'adorer, et il en obtint une vision quasi permanente. Cette foi fut sans doute pour lui la plus importante, il voyait en Kali la Mère de l'univers et la Mère de toutes les religions ou croyances. Avec l'arrivée de la nonne Bhayravi Brahmani, il s'adonna entièrement aux pratiques tantriques. Il adora ensuite Dieu selon la ragatmika bhakti et les panchabhavas, approches vishnouites prônant cinq relations d'amour envers Dieu. Quand Ramakrishna rencontra Tota Pouri, ce moine errant qui connaissait Brahman, il fit table rase de toutes les conceptions de Dieu qu'il avait épousées jusqu'alors, conceptions de Dieu avec noms et formes, pour se plonger dans la méditation sur l'Absolu qui n'a ni nom ni forme, selon l'antique enseignement des Vedas développé par les Oupanishads ; méditation qui selon ses propres dires était un réel défi. Il fut, quelque temps, envahi par la foi islamique, il pratiqua assidûment la Namaz, et il déclara qu'aussi par cette foi, il atteignit le Suprême. Un peu malgré lui, il eut une vision de Jésus. En effet, c'est en regardant une représentation de Marie et de Jésus qu'il eut une révélation concernant le Christ. Il ne pratiqua pas, à proprement parler, de disciplines religieuses liées au christianisme, mais son esprit, demeurant toujours en un haut plan de conscience, s'enflammait à toute suggestion de Dieu, et cette image du Christ lui en fit avoir la vision. -- In his youth, Ramakrishna (1836-1886) naturally adhered to the religion practiced by his family. As soon as he received the sacred cord of the Brahmans, he performed the Rama cult within his household with complete sincerity. Later, when he had become a priest of Kali, he sought to receive an initiation that would enable him to adore her, and in reward he obtained almost permanent awareness from the goddess. To him, this faith was probably the most important of all; he saw in Kali the mother of the universe; the Mother of all religions and beliefs. When the nun Bhayravi Brahmani entered his life, he devoted himself entirely to tantrism. After this he worshipped God according to the ragatmika bhakti and the panchabhavas, Vishnu traditions that prone five types of love relation with God. When Ramakrishna met Tota Pouri, a wandering monk who knew Brahman, he cast aside all his previous concepts of God, concepts that had names and forms; and plunged into meditation on the Absolute, which, according to the ancient teachings of the Vedas developed by the Oupanishads, has neither name nor form. This meditation, in his own words, was a real challenge. For a time he was immersed in the Islamic faith, practicing Namaz assiduously, and declaring that by this faith also he had attained the Supreme Being. Rather in spite of himself, he had a vision of Jesus. While observing a representation of Mary and Jesus, he experienced a revelation about Christ. He never actually practiced any formal Christian discipline, but his spirit, always at a high level of awareness, was inflamed by any suggestion of God, and the image of Christ evoked that vision.
