Before They Were Monsters

My name is Dwayne Taylor, and until six months ago, I considered myself a good person, a good father, a hard worker, and just a boring graphic designer. I believed I cared about other people. My biggest misconception, however, was believing that other people cared about others, too.

Today, I'm waiting to be escorted into a prison interview room to formally meet a rapist and murderer who has consumed my thoughts for the past six months. He's in my veins, lingering behind my eyes every time I blink. Six months have passed, and he's all I can think about.

How did it come to this? I'm a graphic designer, a father, and I was once a loving husband and an assistant coach for a girls' volleyball team. I pay my taxes, go to church at least once a month, and call my mom every Saturday. Now, I'm about to sit down with a killer, and what I'm about to do will shock everyone.
