Lü Simian was a renowned historian. His General History of China-originally published as National History for the Senior High School Textbook of the Fuxing School Series-is structured in six parts, covering Chinese history from ancient times to the 1930s in a continuous narrative. The first and second volumes appeared in February and August 1934, and the book proved extraordinarily popular, going through nearly two hundred printings. A revised edition was later released, adding six chapters to Part Five (Contemporary History) on the War of Resistance, national reconstruction, and wartime foreign affairs and international cooperation.

While most editions in print today follow the original text, this edition incorporates the six supplementary chapters from the revised version for the benefit of our readers.

吕思勉，著名历史学家。其所著《中国通史》（原名《复兴高级中学教科书 本国史》），内容分为六编，从绪论、上古史、中古史、近代史、现代史到结论，一贯而下，全面梳理了自上古时代到二十世纪三十年代的中国历史。一九三四年二月、八月分别出版了上、下册，是当时销量perfect的一本中国通史教科书，先后印行近二百次，后有修正本刊行。比较初版，修正本第五编《现代史》部分多了六章有关全面抗战、建国以及战时外交与国际合作方面的内容。目前市面上通行的本子，多为初版，本版将修正本六章补排，以飨读者。
