A Body in the Pyramid

When archaeologist Laylah Henry is recruited to consult on a big-budget action-adventure film, she sees an opportunity. For years she has dreamed of pursuing her own research, and the fee being promised by the film’s producers is life changing. Travelling to the Great Sand Sea in Egypt, Laylah joins the crew in an ancient temple where a pivotal on-location sequence is being filmed. But on arrival Laylah is dismayed to discover that the film is rife with inaccuracies. Dates are being fabricated. Cultural practices are being misconstrued. Perhaps most egregious of all is a ridiculous booby trap – the likes of which would never have been seen in Ancient Egypt – that has been built for a scene inside the temple. The cameras are rolling. The actors are in place. But it soon becomes clear that the booby trap has been tampered with. As the film’s leading actor swings what he thinks is a rubber sword over his head, Laylah watches on as he is instead killed by a real blade. Trapped in the desert, the sun blazing overhead and a dust storm closing in, Laylah must determine who might want to bring production to so deadly a halt. She hears of rivalries between actors. Grudges among the crew. But would any of them go so far as to commit murder?The answer, it seems, is yes. And when a second body is discovered, it quickly becomes clear that the killer isn’t finished...
