This workbook helps students work out what the next step is at this academic stage, and reinforces the underlying belief that it will be ok whatever choices you make. 16 and Stuck? is the first in a series of workbooks at key educational decision points. It is aimed at students at around the ages of 14 - 16.
It is for students who have end of stage exams at around age 16. This is a typical age for exams around the world, and for you it could be GCSEs, Nationals, State Exams, School Certificate, OSSLT, HKDSE, O Levels or something else altogether. Whichever it is, you're likely to have a choice to make about what to do next.
The book starts with a story about Zed, who is a student really struggling with what to do next. After the introduction pages, you'll see a 4-page comic-style story about the thoughts Zed is having about what he will be studying and where he will be going next.
After that, you'll be able to work through some exercises (and look at examples) to help you think through some of the decisions you need to be making for what you do after your exams. Where to go and what to study can seem daunting.
Like Zed, lots of students and parents are overwhelmed with the choices that need to be made and the pressure that comes with that. Often, even those who seem incredibly confident about what they are doing next have very similar concerns to you.
The book focuses on your past, your possible future, and the help and support you can access along the way. All of this, when thought through logically, can help you decide where to go and what to do next.
If you know what you want to do next, this workbook will still be helpful for you. By working through the exercises, you will be preparing yourself for interviews with colleges or employers by being more able to articulate answers around your strengths and the experiences you have had, and identify areas you need to develop to secure that next step.
