Church theology and practice have been accused of colluding in the oppression of women. The ideology of patriarchy is a major factor behind the control and subordination of women. 'Reweaving the Relational Mat' presents women's experiences of violence in Oceania. Drawing on theological and sociological analysis, the study critiques the ways in which the church has exerted power over women. The Oceanian metaphor of weaving the mat is employed to 'unravel' patriarchal relations. The volume presents case studies of violence against women in the Oceanian theological education setting and provides practical suggestions for future theological training. Reweaving the Relational Mat is an enlightening read for church leaders, theological educators and students of ecclesiology.
